As far as rumours going around, Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Madonna, and Robert Diniro are among the celebrities coming to Qatar. Rumours are swirling here about the celebrity guests heading to Doha for the opening of the Museum of Islamic Art tomorrow. Movie star Robert de Niro is believed to be one of those jetting in from Dubai after attending the opening of the opulent Atlantis hotel complex. The Peninsula revealed earlier this year that De Niro is looking to open his famously fashionable Nobu Restaurant in Doha at the Four Seasons Hotel, West Bay. But it is understood that the star and businessman could also announce on Sunday a project linked with his successful Tribeca Film Festival held in New York each year. Best known for his roles in The Godfather and Taxi Driver, he has also become a successful businessman, investing in the hospitality industry. But, like many of the details surrounding the opening of the Museum of Islamic Art, officials were yesterday tight-lipped about the mega star’s potential movements and refused to confirm or deny his arrival in Doha this weekend. The opening of the MIA is one of the major events all in the country have been eagerly waiting for since the Doha Asian Games in 2006. Qatar Museum Authority officials have promised a star-studded opening event which will be “simple yet unique.” The opening of the museum is being highly anticipated in the international art world. A large media contingent will descend on Doha to report the experience of seeing one of the finest collections of Islamic art from the Arab world and beyond. A mix of celebrities and VIPs from around the world, including art critics, top-tier media persons, actors and political leaders, is expected to come. The QMA has said leading cellist Yo Yo Ma will perform at the opening.
