To mark the occasion of Qatar’s National Day, Carrefour Qatar hosted a Qatari Festival — an event spotlighting local farmers by featuring their produce across a select number of Carrefour stores. The festival took place at Carrefour City Center, Villaggio, Landmark, and Mall of Qatar from 16 to 19 December.
Encouraging customers to buy local, the event promoted food items including fresh fruits, vegetables, beverages, and chilled products sourced from local Qatari producers and suppliers.
The festival reiterates Carrefour’s strong commitment to investing in the growth and prosperity of its industry, communities, and the local economy. By highlighting locally sourced produce, Carrefour Qatar is encouraging customers to become more aware of where their food comes, while providing them the opportunity to buy fresh high-quality products at the best possible value.
To add to the festivities, contests were held across all four hypermarkets in collaboration with Habaieb Radio. Lucky customers walked away with a brand-new iPhone 12 Pro, as well as gift cards worth over 50,000 QAR.
Backing local farmers and suppliers is important to safeguarding the local supply chain. In this regard, Carrefour actively collaborates with 20 local producers and 10 local farms across the country to help support them in growing their businesses and distributing their produce. In fact, Carrefour Qatar stocks 95 per cent of its poultry, 60 per cent of its flour, and 95 per cent of its pre-packaged bread from locally producers and farmers. In addition, a wide range of vegetables such as zucchini, cucumber, tomato, eggplant, fresh herbs, cauliflower, cabbage, and green beans on offer at Carrefour, are sourced from local farms: Safwa, Khodra, Mazzrati, QT fa, Nabati, QADCO, and Agrico.
Carrefour Qatar's contribution to the Food Safety Programme for the past three years has played a considerable role in the country's move towards self-sufficiency and food security.
A main player in the market since 1999, Carrefour aims to continue giving back through on-going support of the local market, and thereby contributing to the nation’s economic and environmental development, both of which are key pillars of the government’s vision for 2030.
