With more than 850 applications for fall 2015 admission, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar has admitted the largest number of Qatari students and most diverse class in its history. The newly admitted students comprise 34 nationalities and are from 105 schools in Qatar and around the world.

The university welcomed the admitted students on campus recently at the annual ‘Marhaba Tartans’ event.

‘Marhaba Tartans’ provides admitted students with an opportunity to interact with faculty, current students and alumni for the purpose of exploring the university’s disciplines through interactive booths. Attendees were also given the opportunity to attend themed breakout sessions highlighting university life and career options for students and graduates.

Congratulating the incoming class, Ilker Baybars, dean of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, said: “You are a highly select group of students chosen because of your accomplishments. You are now part of the Carnegie Mellon family and we look forward to welcoming you to campus in fall.”

Ranked among the top 25 universities in the world, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 Best College Rankings, Carnegie Mellon has been offering several of its world-class undergraduate degree programs in Qatar since 2004. The university ranks 8^th for the ‘Best Undergraduate Business Program,’ 2^nd in ‘Management Information Systems,’ and 1^st for ‘Graduate Schools in Computer Science,’ according to U.S. News & World Report.

“My application process began at last year’s Summer College Preview Program and I then attended the Tajir Day program for secondary school students who are interested in studying business administration. These programs provided me with great insight into the program, as well as student life at Carnegie Mellon Qatar,” said recently admitted student Sarah Marafih.

“In addition to the academic prestige, I decided to apply to Carnegie Mellon Qatar because of the low student-to-faculty ratios and the diverse and multinational environment,” she added.

Throughout the academic year, prospective students are exposed to a variety of outreach programs that highlight the university’s academic offerings and admissions process, and provide a glimpse into student life at Carnegie Mellon Qatar.

The Summer College Preview Program (SCPP) is one of Carnegie Mellon Qatar’s most successful outreach programs, and provides students with a month-long introduction to university admissions requirements and student life. This year, SCPP kicks off on June 21^st and will run until July 15^th.
