A car burst into flames on the outskirts of Doha yesterday. The vehicle, presumably heading towards the Central Market direction, caught fire just before 11am near the roundabout on Khalid Ahmed Street, eyewitnesses told this paper. The fire devoured the two-door premium car leaving just the charred remains of its bodywork. Identity of the person who drove the car is not known. It’s also not clear whether anyone was injured in the accident. The Peninsula team which visited the spot found the doors of the car tightly locked and couldn’t trace out any evidence of casualties inside the burnt car. It is also not clear what ignited the fire. A reader who caught the action live on camera (see right) said the incident occurred a little before 11 am and the driver was nowhere in sight. “Clouds of white smoke billowing from the area was visible from far away as I was driving towards the Central Market. As I reached the spot, I saw a huge ball of fire at the roundabout. It took a few seconds for me to realise it’s from the car,” Abdul Razzak said. “It seems no one was inside the car. Probably, the driver must have walked away from an overheated car and it caught fire”, another eyewitness said. The Civil Defence team and the police rushed to the scene and quickly extinguished the flames. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=August2009&file=Local_News2009083123853.xml
