The Al Fakhoora Solidarity Campaign will intensify its activities to restore the education environment in the war-torn Gaza Strip. The Solidarity member Saleh Al Khulaifi (Qatar University) and Sarah Al Batchi (Qatar Foundation) told reporters here yesterday that the Solidarity will join hands with student organisation in the Arab world and global lobby for the protection of the lives of students and the educational institutions in Gaza. Al Fakhoora is a Student Solidarity campaign, led by students across Qatar. The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of the plight of students in Gaza and to appeal to the international community to raise its voice in instating that education be protected during this crisis. There is an urgent need to forge a wider cooperation with students organization in order to intensify Al Fakhoora Solidarity’s activities in Gaza Strip to restore normalcy in the education sector in the war-torn Gaza strip. “At least 20 schools have been bombed and hundreds of students are dead in Palestine. Urgent action should be done to prevent the further killing of students and attack on educational institutions”, he said. Al Khulaifi said Al Fakhoora Students Solidarity has already sent a batch of students to Gaza. They are involved in the rehabilitation activities in Rafah, he said. The Solidarity has lined up a series of activities to send its message across the national and international level. He said the January 13 student “Peace Walk” led by H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned was a huge success due to the massive participation of the students. “We have plans to extend this kind of mass students gatherings across the Arab region”, Al Khulaifi said. Al Fakhoora Students Solidariy has lined up a series of events to show solidarity with the suffering people in Gaza. Recently, it held three-day events including blood donations, signature campaigns, speeches by eminent personalities and video interactions with the people in Gaza. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=January2009&file=Local_News2009011632956.xml
