A calligraphy exhibition titled ‘The Best Citations By Arabs’ has been opened at the Wakif Art Gallery, as part of ‘Doha, Capital of Arab Culture 2010’. The exhibition features some of the masterpieces in this field as well as the rare works of international calligrapher Obaida al-Banki and is organised as part of the cultural programme ‘Ramadan in Doha’ under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage and Awqaf Ministry, represented by Fanar Islamic Centre. HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari and HE the Awqaf Minister Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari jointly inaugurated the show which will run until August 26. Following the inauguration, HE Ghaith said that the exhibition was aimed at spreading human and Muslim values, as well as promoting the shared values between Muslims and people of different civilisations. Most of the citations are adaptations of Arab verses and proverbs, which reflect the Arab values and traditions. Highlighting the co-operation between both ministries, the Minister of Culture maintained that the success of the “Doha, Capital of Arab Culture 2010” was the responsibility of all the ministries. “The Ramadan cultural programme will also include important lectures on human rights in Islamic teachings and many workshops on religious issues”, he added. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=381377&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
