The British Council has announced the successful conclusion of its award-winning Springboard Women’s Development Programme which was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Qatar’s Job Qualifying Centre (JQC). The Programme consists of four workshops, held over a month. Participants are engaged in practical activities to develop their skills. A segment of inspirational success stories of professionals in Qatar who come in to share their knowledge and their experience adds another dimension to the workshops. The Programme also consists of a 300-page workbook that is designed to give each participant a personalised experience and a framework to guide individual goal creation and achievement. The Programme has a proven capacity to empower women to accomplish their goals, develop their skills and achieve better positions in both their professional and personal lives. The 30 participants who underwent training at JQC have confirmed that among the benefits of the programme are: more self-confidence and motivation; ability to set and achieve clear goals; capacity to develop a positive attitude; ability to communicate more assertively and effectively; ability to present a positive image and a distinct improvement in work/life balance.
Commenting on the programme Nermeen Radwan, Springboard Project Manager for the British Council said: “We are pleased that our partnership with the Ministry of Labour and the JQC has reached a new level. The British Council is delighted with the growing success of this initiative, which was first launched in Qatar in 2009. Since then, we have run many rounds of Springboard and opened it out to the public.” The Programme also held specially tailored training sessions to suit the needs of specific organisations. “We have developed Arabic material for the programme and have Arabic speaking trainers, who introduce contextually appropriate case studies to ensure maximum benefit to participants.” Radwan explains.
Many women from all walks of life and different sectors of employment have followed the Springboard Women’s Development Programme in Qatar since its launch. Local organisations such as Ooredoo, Qatar University, College of North Atlantic, Hamad Medical Corporation and Commercial Bank have trained their staff in partnership with the British Council. As part of Qatar-UK year, Springboard courses are offered at the British Council every month in English and in Arabic. Participants who complete the programme receive a merit certificate, which is certified by Springboard Consultancy and the British Council worldwide.
