A Qatari divorcee who was living in an old two-room house in Khalifa Town with her six children had the fright of her life when the ceiling of one of the rooms collapsed, injuring two of the kids. The children suffered fractures and have been admitted to Hamad hospital, a local Arabic daily reported. The family had been forced to live in the two-room house because of the high rents prevailing in Qatar, the report said. They have since shifted to a relative’s house. Hamad al-Marri, a nephew of the woman, spoke of the family’s trauma. “The house was hardly accommodating the seven-member family even before the collapse. But since my aunt’s eldest son, who is 22, is unemployed they had no choice but to stay in that small house,” he told the daily. “I hope that some benevolent people can help the distressed family, especially before the beginning of the holy fasting month of Ramadan,” al-Marri said.
