Bonanza for shoppers as trade expo starts

More than 650 traders from 30 countries are taking part in the Doha Summer Trade Fair, which opened at the Doha Exhibition Center yesterday. Ambassadors Abdullah Sohrabi of Iran, Mohamed Asghar Afridi of Pakistan and Lebanon’s Hassan Yousuf Saad jointly inaugurated the event, which the organisers have termed as “a major shopping experience.” After the opening, the three ambassadors went around most of the pavilions. One of the stalls displays brass and silver products The 10-day event, which concludes on June 16, offers a host of prizes, including four wheel vehicles and 10 Quad bikes to the visitors. On display are jewels, cosmetics, perfumes and clothes among other things. Speaking to Gulf Times the Iranian ambassador said the traders from his are displaying a wide range of high quality products, especially carpets, which have great demand in Qatar. Karim Zarka, CEO of Qatar Expo, which is jointly organising the event in association with Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, hoped at least 200,000 people would visit the exhibition this year. Zarka said the company plans another major fair during the winter at the same venue. The organisers said carpets from Iran and Pakistan, silver from Egypt and textiles from Syria are among the major attractions at the show. As in the previous editions of the event, Chinese exhibitors have a sizeable presence, with more than 150 stalls at the venue.
