DOHA: Multi-awarded English singer-songwriter James Blunt is set to regale his fans in Qatar when he features at a one-night only concert at the InterContinental Hotel beachfront tonight. Blunt is in Doha as part of his ‘Some Kind of Trouble’ world tour to 220 cities which started in January last year. Tomorrow he will be in Muscat and at the Dubai International Jazz Festival the next day. “I have been in the Middle East before but this is my first time in Qatar and I hope people will enjoy the concert tomorrow. It will be a blast!” Blunt told his enthusiastic fans at a press conference held at the Virgin Megastore in Villaggio yesterday. An eclectic mix of classics including his hard-hitting ‘You’re Beautiful’ and more upbeat songs from his third and latest album ‘Some Kind of Trouble’ will be played by Blunt along with his six-member band at the concert tonight. “They can expect songs from my first album Back to Bedlam to my latest album. All the songs they have enjoyed listening over the radio,” he said. The army officer turned singer said he was amazed about the multitude of cultures and races living in the region. “It doesn’t matter what religion, race, culture or gender we have. We all share the same hopes and fears,” he said, adding he enjoys various types of music mentioning Elton John, Paul Simon and Cat Stevens among his favourite singers. “Cat Stevens is a phenomenal musician and a huge inspiration for me,” he commented of the well-known singer set to have a concert on Thursday at the Museum of Islamic Art Park. Asked what he would have been if he did not become a musician he said: “I would have been in the army. I’ve served in the army for six years and it has always been a great feeling trying to bring peace and stability to the country.” The press conference was also attended by Gordon Mackenzie from Alive Entertainment, Jared McCulloch from Global DJs, Khalifa Saleh Haroon from iloveqatar.net and Hafidh Al Busaidy, General Manager– InterContinental Doha. The concert is organised by Alive Entertainment and Global DJs in cooperation with InterContinental Doha and iloveqatar.net.
