Bloomsbury Qatar Foundation Publishing has recently sponsored the first writing workshop for creative writers, entitled ‘Introduction to creative writing in Arabic,” where university students, young professionals and journalists gathered to learn about writing. Participants said they were glad to see that such an activity was organised in Arabic, as they feel that it is “an important language for self-expression.” A spokesperson said that the goal of the workshop was to “support the development of writers as well as begin to discover the interest in writing in Arabic.” The workshop was led by Maryam al-Subaiey, who is a writer for ‘Qatar: Then and Now,’ as well as a regular contributor to the Woman Today magazine. She used a number of approaches in the workshop such as spontaneous writing activities as well as examining samples of published works. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=312347&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
