Bill Gates in Qatar; meets royal family

H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation and co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, at the Amiri Diwan Office on Tuesday morning, 7 December 2021. Bill Gates called on His Highness to greet him on the occasion of his visit to the country.

At the outset of the meeting, Bill Gates expressed his thanks and appreciation to H.H. the Amir for the efforts of the State of Qatar in the humanitarian and development action worldwide, especially the humanitarian efforts in support of the Afghan people.

During the meeting, they discussed the existing bilateral cooperation and the prospects for developing them, in addition to several issues of common interest.

H.H. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) and Education Above All Foundation, also met with Bill Gates. During the meeting, they discussed several topics of mutual interest, which were related to scientific research and youth economic empowerment.

As the Co-Chair and Trustee of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill Gates visited Qatar Foundation, with the two foundations looking to work together on mutually beneficial projects focused on health and sustainability.

During his visit to Education City, on which he was joined by H.E. Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation, Gates gained an overview of the Qatar Foundation (QF) ecosystem of education, research and innovation, and community development from the eighth-floor viewing balcony at the 2015 building (QF Headquarters).

Gates was also accompanied on the visit by Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, President of QF’s Hamad Bin Khalifa University; Sultana Afdhal, CEO of the World Innovation Summit for Health, QF’s global health initiative; and Maryah Al-Dafa, Executive Director, Vice-Chairperson/CEO Office, QF.

Since 2008, Gates has devoted himself full-time to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a non-profit organization that is committed to fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Before that, Gates co-founded Microsoft Corporation in 1975, which went on to become the worldwide leader in business and personal software and services.
