THE Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has completed the expansion of the water network to Barwa Real Estate’s newly-built housing complex in the Mesaimeer area. Kahramaa technical affairs director Abdullah al-Subaie said the completion of the project on schedule was a major achievement. “We are now working to complete another major Barwa project in Sailiya next month,” al-Subaie said. The Mesaimeer complex, with about 1,000 housing units, would be supplied with water through pipes of 300mm diameter. The Sailiya project would benefit another 1,000 customers, he said. Al-Subaie said Kahramaa was committed to meeting the requirements of Qatar residents and would ensure problem-free water and power supply during summer, when demand was highest. He added that the corporation was working round the clock to replace mechanical water meters with electronic ones. “Besides, work is now in progress on upgrading distribution networks of water pipelines laid as early as 1980 in Doha and surrounding districts. The project is scheduled to be completed this year,” he said.
