Bahrain Air yesterday announced it will be expanding its fleet in the coming months to offer its customers more destinations. Captain Ibrahim Abdulla Al Hamer, managing director of Bahrain Air, said the company wants to capitalise on the opportunities available in the market during the global economic downturn. “The financial crisis has given us an opportunity to acquire more aircrafts for our expansion plans… The future of air travel is in the low-cost carriers, and we want to be here to offer good service to our customers,” said Al Hamer after the official opening of the second Bahrain Air sales and ticketing office here. Al Hamer said Bahrain Air now has five aircraft but will soon be getting an A320 on May 29, A319s on June 19 and 25, and another A320 on October 15. “People will still want to travel despite the global downturn of the economy but they will want to choose a more affordable way to travel… We are here to make travel more convenient and more affordable for our clients… Our new dedicated sales office reaffirms Bahrain Air’s’ commitment to this important market. It will enable us to provide clients with the strengths of our network and offer excellent levels of hospitality and services,” he said. Bahrain Air had seen a 54 percent increase in its business last year as well as in the first quarter of this year, said Al Hamer. The company is targeting a 70 percent increase in business this summer. Bahrain Air is a private carrier based in Bahrain operating within the Middle East and North African countries and to the Indian sub-continent. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=May2009&file=Local_News2009052753748.xml
