The Crescent Investigation Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) invites all Muslims to investigate the sighting of the crescent moon that will signify the starting of Shawwal on the evening of 11 May 2021 (29 Ramadan 1442 Hijri) and Eid Al Fitr 2021.
Anyone who spots the crescent moon should immediately visit the Committee Headquarters at Awqaf (Dafna Towers) to report their testimony on the sighting of the moon.
The Committee will meet immediately after the Maghrib (sunset) prayer on the same day to sight the crescent moon as well.
It is noteworthy that the visibility of the crescent is influenced by many factors, including climatic factors, geographical factors, and astronomical factors such as the period of stay and the age of the crescent and its height from the western horizon at sunset. Also, the beginning and end of the Hijri months depend on the movement of the moon in its orbit around the Earth, while the beginning and ending of the Gregorian months depend on the movement of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun.
