DOHA • The food monitoring unit, under the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA), seized huge quantity of rotten fish from various retail outlets in Doha on Friday. In the raid, the inspection team seized nearly three tonnes of decayed fish from more than 50 shops, an Arabic daily reported. A major share of the decayed fish was coming from Oman. Nearly 2,100kg of rotten fish was recovered from containers coming from Oman. Poor condition of freezers in the truck that carry fish is being cited as one of the major reasons for the fish decay. Bad storage facility at the shops and stalls is another reason. An estimated 70 tonnes of fish is arriving at the Central Market every day. The massive stock of rotten fish was seized at a time when the fish price has touched an all-time high.
