The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ announced the completion of development works on a road and an intersection within the Road Improvement Works in Al Rayyan Area - Phase 5 Project, and that both are now fully open to traffic. This recent upgrade will help facilitate access to the Al-Sailiya Central Market, and comes as part of the Authority’s plan to improve the efficiency of the existing junctions and local road network.

Eng. Fahd Mohamed Al Otaibi, Head of Western Areas Section in the Roads Projects Department pointed out that the recently completed works under this project consist in the construction of a new signalized junction at Al-Sailiya Road that aims to connect it to the 2.1km newly constructed Street leading to Al-Sailiya Central Market’s truck parking. In addition, the improvement works involved a 2.3km section of Al-Sailiya Road which links the new traffic signal to Al-Majd Road to provide commuters using this road with access to the market via the exit located at Al-Sailiya Road.

This opening also coincides with the opening of Al Sailiyya Central Market, as the new road and junction will serve the market visitors and more than 200 commercial outlets. The openings will also facilitate truck traffic towards Al-Majd Road. In addition to the road and junction construction, works also included lighting and road markings as well as other road elements that were provided to improve traffic safety.

It is worth noting that, as part of the Road Improvement Works in Rayyan Area - Phase 5 Project, Ashghal finished the construction of 2.2 km of roads to serve and connect the local sewerage plant with Al-Sailiya main road, where the traffic density for tankers is estimated to be around 2500-3000 tankers/day. Project works also involved the construction of a two-lane road and storm water drainage, while street lighting works are currently underway.
