The Public Works Authority, 'Ashghal' announced that a new stretch of road on the Dukhan Highway Central Project is now open to traffic from the direction of Dukhan towards Doha effective 25 April. The traffic which was previously diverted to the service road south of Dukhan Road has now been redirected to the newly completed 1.5 Km section of road.

Redirecting the traffic to the newly completed section on the main Dukhan Road will improve the traffic flow by providing 4 lanes in each direction. It will also separate the traffic coming from the direction of Doha from the traffic coming from beneath the steel bridge on the Temporary Truck Road enabling commuters to use the service road south of the main Dukhan Road to reach the inner region.

The authority has completed around 67% of the construction works on the Dukhan Highway Central project which is due to be completed in Q4 2016.

It is worth noting that Ashghal is focused on seeing commuters benefit from the use of any completed sections in its projects which is why Ashghal is directly redirecting the traffic flow to the original road the moment the new stretch of road has been completed. This forms an integral part of a good planning system in implementing Expressway projects and reducing the effects on traffic flows. This also makes it possible to benefit from the use of newly completed sections rather than waiting for the whole project to be completed which might take up to 2 years for projects such as the Dukhan Highway Central.

This project includes the construction of a new expressway stretching west of the existing Al Wajba Intersection and ends one kilometer east of Al Shahaniyah town. The project also comprises a 15 Km dual carriageway with 4 lanes in each direction with hard shoulders and grade separated interchanges.

The Dukhan Highway Central Project will improve traffic between Dukhan and central Doha. It will also provide additional lanes in each direction for more reliable and safer journeys and will comprise the construction of grade-separated interchanges that will segregate highway traffic from local traffic. Last but not least the project will provide transport options including a two-lane cycle track to reduce the reliance on vehicles for local traffic.
