Ashghal completes maintenance of roads in Al Khor and other areas

The Public Works Authority Ashghal completed maintenance and development works on a number of roads in Al Khor area, in addition to Bin Omran, Al Hitmi Al Jadeed, Al Gharrafa and Ain Khalid areas, within the frameworks contract for roads maintenance in the country.

Maintenance and development works included replacing the top asphalt layer in some roads, treating the asphalt defects in the main and local roads, enhancing lighting poles, replacing lamps, developing traffic lights, in addition to installing directional signs and ensuring safety on the road. These works were implemented while taking into consideration requests made by residents and in cooperation with the representatives of the Municipality and members of the municipal council for each area. All maintenance and development plans are designed after assessing the condition of the internal roads, checking on safety elements on the roads from lighting, speed bumps, and status of the pavement status.

Head of Roads Maintenance at the Roads Operation and Maintenance Department in Ashghal Engineer Abdullah Al Yafie said: "The work in Al Khor area included, asphalt paving, road marking, and repairing of around 98 km of internal roads andaround1,600 manholes (inspection room), as well as installing and developing a number of directional signs. Ashghal also installed 1,370 new street lighting poles using LED lights, while 830 old lights were replaced with new LED lights to improve visibility and to save energy".

As for Ain Khalid and Al Hitmi Al Jadeed, works included asphalt paving, road marking and maintenance of about 15 km of internal roads and around 221 manholes. In addition to installing and developing new signal and traffic lights, installing 122 new lighting poles and replacing 122 lights with new LED lights.

Works in Al Gharrafa included asphalt paving and marking of about 16 km of internal roads, and repairing about 400 manholes. In addition to installing an of speed humps to increase traffic safety in the area, and installing 115 new lighting poles with LED lights. As for Bin Omran, it included paving and planning about 18 km of internal roads, repairing 232 manholes, installing 142 traffic signs, developing road signs, and installing 532 new lighting poles with LED lights.

Ashghal began the implementation of the Frameworks Contract for Road Maintenance in Qatar in 2017, which includes safety inspections, rehabilitation, replacement and maintenance of the road networks, including urgent, routine and preventive maintenance.
