Business leaders from South America are optimistic that the second Arab-South American Business Forum that opened at the Sharq Village and Spa yesterday, will strengthen and build new ties between the Arab and South American countries. The South American businessmen, with businesses ranging from real estate to food, said they want to invest in the Middle East and invite investors to South America. They are also seeking tie-ups with Qatar Airways for direct flights. “We want to invite tourists to Colombia and I’m sure, tourists from Colombia would also want to see the Middle East, we want to develop this channel… and as this demand increases, we will need more direct flights from here to Colombia,” said Mustafa Badawy Orrantia, commercial director of the Colombia-UAE and GCC Chamber of Commerce. Humberto Goyen Fros, deputy managing director of CSI Ingenieros, Uruguay’s leading provider of consulting and engineering services, said his company wants to invest in Qatar and wants to check out The Pearl-Qatar. The business forum was organised with the aim to develop business partnerships and activities to build bridges toward economic growth and integration between the Arab and South American business communities. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=March2009&file=Local_News2009033023031.xml
