Arab Summit in Doha crucial says Oman

Cairo, March 06 – Yousef bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs , has stressed the significance of the next Arab Summit due to open in Doha, Qatar, late this month noting that such a summit comes in a delicate and very complicated stage. “The mere convening of such an Arab summit in Doha will provide it an appropriate ground in view of the active role Qatar has been playing in this regard”, said Youssef bin Alawi after his meeting here on Tuesday with Arab League Secretary General Dr.Nabil Al Arabi. Elaborating the Omani Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs said,” Personally I expect the Doha Summit resolutions would be more capable of implementation.” Asked about meeting with dr. al Arabi, Youssef bin Alawi said they discussed topics listed on the agenda of the 139th session of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Council, due to be held tomorrow “Wednesday” at the HQs’ of the Arab League under the chair of Egypt. The agenda includes a number of topics, most importantly the development of situations in Syria, the Palestinian cause and promoting the joint Arab work, he said. In reply to a question about the vision of Oman to the issues to be taken up by the Arab ministerial meeting, opening here tomorrow ,Wednesday, especially with regard to the Syrian crisis, the Omani minister said, ” efforts are now being exerted to resolve the Syrian issue …the new thing we see in this regard is something of conformity and agreement which is emerging among the UN Security Council members…But this conformity or compatibility needs more Arab pressure to find a way out of this crisis, ” the Omani Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs noted. The meeting was attended by Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali al-Harthy, Sultanate’s ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the Arab League. Source:QatarChronicle
