THE Arab Games Organising Committee (AGOC) has signed a sponsorship deal with Al Leewan, a popular Qatari television quiz show and a Ramadan favourite for the past 12 years. Aired daily on Qatar TV during the Holy Month of Ramadan, Al Leewan involves questions and answers on different themes each year. This year’s theme is on modernity. The participants are divided into groups based on the local residential areas they hail from. Participants who answer three questions correctly win a cash prize of QR 10,000, and get nominated for the grand prize of QR 1,000,000. Due to its strong relevance to Qatari culture, traditions, and national development, Al Leewan enjoys wide local and regional audience. “Qatar is sharing its unrivalled experience to create games of Olympic standards for the benefit of all Arab nations and future Arab Games,” said Abdulrahman al Dosari, director of marketing at AGOC. “Our affiliation with Al Leewan stems from the fact that we believe in investing in people. Through sport, Qatar is investing in people, developing skills and expertise as the nation responds to a common goal of hosting major events,” he said. As diamond sponsor for this Ramadan’s broadcasts, Arab Games Doha 2011 will be a prevailing topic in Al Leewan episodes throughout the period. The show’s presenter will be sharing background information about the upcoming sporting event, as well as posing quiz questions about the games, answers to which can be found on the event’s website, http://www.arabgames2011. qa/newen/. “Beyond sporting action, the Arab Games will bring together live music, culture and arts, with events and stunning performances to entertain everyone – not just diehard sports fans,” al Dosari said. With a trail of successful international sporting events, such as the Asian Games, IAAF World Indoors, Diamond League, Asian Cup, World Volleyball Championships and WTA, Qatar plans to host one of the best sporting events in the history of the Arab Games. One of the most anticipated regional sporting events in the Arab world, the Arab Games will hold from December 9 to 23. This multisport event that is held every four years will be held in Qatar for the first time. http://www.qatar-tribune.com/data/20110815/content.asp?section=nation2_4
