The resolution of the Cabinet No. 33 for the year 2010 for setting up National Traffic Safety Committee was ratified by His Highness the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent d on 22nd July 2010.
As the official responsible body for formulating and devising general traffic policies and all plans and procedures required for developing traffic services in the country.
Among various objectives of the National Committee for Traffic Safety are improving standard of traffic safety on roads, providing both citizens and expatriates with the highest possible levels of security and safety for their lives, properties and protecting human and economic resources of the country.
The Committee also aims at raising traffic awareness among the individuals of the society and enhancing ambulance medical services. Reducing traffic accidents through optimum use of State potentials and utilizing social initiatives of all institutions for the development of traffic services are also among the objectives of this Committee.
The National Traffic Safety Committee is entrusted with a number of missions in accordance with its decree of foundation. One of the main missions of this Committee is developing policies and plans in traffic work field and finding out problems and proposing the necessary solutions for solving them.
This is in addition to drafting definite national strategies for traffic safety and coordinating and cooperating with various departments that have connection with traffic works.
The Committee recommends relevant traffic legislations for roads and transportation and road engineering plans and it also carries out traffic researches and studies and improves medical rescue services. Participation in local, regional and international conferences dealing with traffic safety issues and innovating latest tools of raising awareness also come among the functions of this Committee.
In addition to the Ministry of Interior, the members of this Committee are representatives from Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Urban Planning, Supreme Council of Health, Supreme Council of Education, Supreme Council of Family Affairs, Ashghal (Public Works Authority), Qatar University, Qatar Media Foundation and General Secretariat for Development Planning.
The National Committee for Traffic Safety is a new achievement and idea that aim at disseminating the culture of safety to optimize security and safety for road users, which in essence reflects a civilized image about Qatar to the entire world, which closely monitors Qatar's accomplishments in all fields of life.
