Ashghal has decided not to demolish the Al Wakrah Pearl Shell that makes up the Pearl Roundabout on Al Wakrah Road, and is an iconic landmark, in the area. In fact, they will move it to another location because it is a landmark that is loved by all the people of Qatar – local and expats - alike! Ashghal has not yet disclosed which location it will move the Pearl Shell to, but it is sure to pop up somewhere else and adorn some other part of Doha in the near future.
The Al Wakrah Pearl roundabout is being changed into an intersection with traffic lights by Ashghal to ease the congestion of traffic in Wakrah and ensure traffic flows smoothly in the area, and there were reports that the Pearl Shell would be demolished as part of the project. Not anymore though!
