The Al Raya Newspaper reported on June 19 2022, the active implementation of Arabic as the primary language for shop signs in the Al Wakrah Municipality.
Many shop owners began applying this regulation upon receiving the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Municipality in the month of May as part of regulating aesthetics of the streets.
Among the many regulations in terms of advertisement locations and sizes, the municipality had emphasized that any other language is permissible to be used as well, however, Arabic will have to be the primary language with a minimum size of 50% of the advertising medium. They also emphasized that the Arabic text must be at the top or the right side and must be of accurate spelling.
Shop owners were also informed of a fine of QR 20, 000 that they would be subject to if the necessary changes of old billboard removal and signages with aligned with the new regulations were not implemented at the earliest.
