The Al-Khor International School (British Stream) has won the second Qatar National Robot Olympiad hosted by Edutech Middle East, a leading provider of technology-enabled learning solutions, and the Qatar Independent Technical School (QITS) on Tuesday. The winning AKIS team will represent Qatar at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Japan from October 31 to November 2. The team members received a gold trophy, certificates and a LEGO brick trophy from Qatar Petroleum’s corporate training manager Abdullah al-Aziz al-Sahlawi. The competition required teams to solve a set of problems using a set of standard mechanical parts, as per the rules and regulations set by the WRO. The event was judged by Mohamed al-Meer (head, Computer Science, Qatar University) and Yousuf El-Thahir (head, maths and science, corporate training, Qatar Petroleum). Under the theme ‘Saving Global Environment’, the event attracted young scientists with creative skills in robotics for a friendly competition with their peers, with aims of advancing robotics technology within the academic community and among the younger population. Edutech Middle East CEO ASF Karim observed that the event has become a defining moment for many young and talented students. Qatar Independent Technical School general manager Mohamed Bahlool said that the inclusion of robotics in schools’ curriculum would enhance students’ science and technology skills. GT
