An Asian man who stole QR128 from a wallet that he found in a toilet at the Doha airport on his arrival in the country has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment and subsequent deportation. According to the charge sheet, the incident took place on December 21 last year when the 28-year-old Bangladeshi went to the airport bathroom after landing in Qatar for the first time. “He found a small bag there and stole QR128 from it.” The court heard that the bag belonged to a nine-year-old Qatari boy who had used the bathroom earlier. The boy said that when he remembered that he had left the bag in the toilet, he returned to take it but found “an Asian traveller opening it and taking the money from it”. The boy’s father said that he saw his son “holding” the man and the matter was referred to the airport police. The sum was recovered from the Bangladeshi’s pocket. The Bangladeshi did not attend the trial but the court accepted his confession before the public prosecution. Explaining the conviction, the court said that the accused knew that the money he tried to take belonged to someone else and the money was found in his pocket. The court said that it was satisfied with the confession “which was in line with the testimony of the boy and his father.” Court sources said that the accused had been deported on an administrative order. Technically, the convict can challenge the verdict in front of the same bench within eight working days after coming to know about it, subjected to the approval of the presiding judge. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=306113&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
