The air, sea and land borders between Qatar and Saudi Arabia will be opened tonight, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister H.E. Sheikh Dr Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah has announced, speaking on state TV.

He also said that the H.H. Amir of Kuwait made two calls with H.H. the Amir of Qatar and the Saudi Crown Prince in order to sign the "Al-Ula summit statement". He added that it was agreed to address all relevant issues.

H.H. the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received a verbal message from H.H. the Amir of Kuwait, pertaining to bilateral relations and the means to enhance them, in addition to the joint GCC action. The message was conveyed by H.E. Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, during his meeting with H.H. the Amir.

According to Reuters, White House senior adviser Jared Kushner, helped negotiate the deal and was working the phones on it until the wee hours of Monday morning. Under the emerging agreement, the four countries will end the blockade of Qatar, and in exchange, Qatar will not pursue lawsuits related to the blockade.

Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council His Excellency Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf also welcomed the opening of airs, land and sea borders between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar today. “Earlier today the Kuwait Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah announced that the air, sea, and land borders between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar will re-open as of this evening. The announcement came after a call by The Amir of Kuwait H.H. Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah with his brothers the H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

“This decision on the eve of the 41st GCC summit is a reflection of sincere efforts being made to ensure the success of tomorrow’s summit across all areas despite the exceptional circumstances created by the pandemic. Today’s announcement once again proves that the GCC embodies a deep-rooted partnership that consistently overcomes challenges while advancing the interests of the GCC people thanks to the leadership and wisdom of its leaders.”, the statement released by the GCC Summit 41 Press Release said.

The statement by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman released on Saudi Press Agency read: "The policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, is based on a solid approach targeting achieving the ultimate interests of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Arab countries, in addition to harnessing entire endeavors for the good of their peoples and to realize their security and stability."
