Agricultural exhibition opens

The latest developments in the agricultural sector are in focus at the Third Qatar International Agricultural Exhibition 2012 (Third AgriteQ 2012) which began yesterday at the Doha Exhibition Centre. The four-day event, being held under the patronage of HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, was opened by the Minister of Environment HE Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aaboud al-Midhadhi. Fahad bin Mohamed al-Attiya, chairman, Qatar National Food Security Programme (QNFSP), and other dignitaries were present on the occasion. About 150 international and local agricultural companies are showcasing their products, technologies and innovations at the exhibition which has the Ministry of Environment as the official sponsor. Different segments of the agricultural sector are highlighted by specialist companies and distributors in addition to stalls by several countries. Governments of Egypt, Yemen, Sudan, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, Lebanon, Ukraine, Tunisia, Qatar and the Dubai Municipality have set up pavilions depicting the progress achieved on the agricultural front. QNFSP, Qatar Development Bank, Special Engineering Office, Qatar University’s Environmental Studies Centre, Qatar Foundation (Garden of the Holy Qur’an) and Qatar Scientific Club are among the key local participants. The other participants from Qatar include Qatar Meat & Livestock Trading Company (Sudan branch), Hassad Food, National Food Company, Arab Qatar Company for Dairy Production, Arab Qatar Company for Poultry Production, Arab Qatari Agricultural Production Company, Qatar Shell Research and Technology Centre, Al Dosari Zoo, and Sulaitin Agricultural and Industrial Complex. Irrigation systems, water processing and running techniques, pumps and pipe systems, sprinkling machines, farming machines and equipment, food processing and packaging, fertilisers and soil nourishing products, and gardening accessories and equipment are among the exhibits. The event is being conducted by Seqlia Ex Exhibitions and Conferences Organising. The exhibition is open from 9am to 1pm and from 4pm to 9pm on weekdays, while the timing on Friday is from 3pm to 9pm. Gulf Times
