A criminal court here has sentenced a young man to a year in jail after he was found guilty of altering a woman’s photograph to make it look vulgar and posting it on the Internet along with her mobile phone number. The man was related to the woman and had some kind of tiff with her over some issue. The convict thought of settling scores with her. He had a photograph of hers with him. He altered the photograph and made it look indecent and then posted it on the Internet. He gave her mobile phone number along with the picture. The woman was rudely shocked when she began receiving dirty phone calls from people within the country and overseas. Suspecting foul play, she dug into the matter and discovered to her horror that a photograph portraying her as a woman soliciting men was posted on the Internet. She immediately suspected that it could be the handiwork of the convict, who was out to seek revenge on her. Furious, she went to the police station and lodged a complaint. She provided the man’s mobile phone number to the cops, who rushed to his residence and checked his computer. After confirming that he had altered the photograph of the complainant and put it on the Internet with the intent to defame her to seek revenge, the police took him into custody and confiscated his computer as proof of the crime. After interrogation, he was referred to the Prosecution, which forwarded the matter to the court after charges were filed against him. The court tried him and, finding him guilty on the basis of the evidence provided by the Prosecution, sentenced him to a year in jail.
