The Qatar Natural History Group and the Doha Singers held the Starry Night in the Dunes yesterday at the Singing Dunes in the outskirts of Doha. The Starry Night in the Dunes, which is a family event, included a welcome greeting by Santa Claus and his elves, in which young visitors were received from 4pm to 6pm. A bonfire was lit at 6pm and Christmas carols then filled the air. The Qatar Natural History Group and the Doha Singers have been holding the Starry Night in the Dunes for the last four years, with their members gathering to sing holiday songs at the event. “This event gives musicians a chance to play some tunes. We welcome anyone who wants to sing a few songs or play some tunes. A small stage and a sound system are provided,” said Fran Gillespie, PR/media representative. The Starry Night in the Dunes, which was originally a star-gazing event that evolved into songs, a bonfire and other seasonal activities, included a sand-lantern-making activity. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=December2008&file=Local_News200812203938.xml
