Qatar plans to build 22 new parks in various parts of Doha as well as other cities, a meeting at the Central Municipal Council (CMC) on Tuesday was told. The meeting was attended by CMC members and representatives from the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), the Urban Planning and Development General Authority (UPDA), Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture (MMAA) and the Group Consulting Office (GCO) to discuss issues concerning public parks. Speaking at the meeting, Mahmoud Kyton, from the Group Consulting Office (GCO), said that the GCO would set up 22 new parks throughout the country. The GCO, he said, will build six parks in Doha Municipality, four parks in Dhaayen Municipality, two in Al Rayan and one in Al Gharafa and Al Shahaniya each. There are also six parks planned for Al Rayan Municipality but study about them is still under way, he added. Yusuf Al Kulaifi, who represented MMAA's Public Parks Department in the meeting, said that the recent decision, which shifted the Towns Beatification Section from Ashghal to MMAA, will contribute much in improving the conditions of parks in the country.
