Qatari and American musicians performed last night at a private concert at the American ambassador’s residence in Onaiza. Abdulaziz Haidos, chairman of the board of directors of the Music Arts Centre, wowed the audience as he serenaded them with traditional Gulf music on his oud. Ateeq Saeed, master percussionist, accompanied him during his performance. Mirage, an American octet from Colorado which comprises of wind and percussion instruments, played an eclectic variety of classical and American jazz pieces that flowed seamlessly with Haidos’ music. “Music is one of the most basic expressions of a culture, and therefore, a powerful means of communication between peoples. I am proud to have hosted a concert that celebrates some of the finest Qatari and American artists,” said US Ambassador Joseph LeBaron. During their stay in Doha, Mirage, the American octet will perform at a number of schools and other venues, as well as in Al Khor, “to encourage Qatari children to express themselves through music.”
