85 firms penalised for rules violation THE Labour Department has penalised 85 private sector firms for violating labour laws during the August 3-7 period, a statement issued by the department said yesterday. The department said the companies had committed glaring violations, including delaying the salary of a large number of workers and endangering workers by not following occupational health safety rules. According to the statement, the action is part of an intensified crackdown against private firms violating labour laws. The department had suspended the transactions of 92 private companies for similar violations last month.
