The maximum speed on the newly-opened roads linking the D-Ring Interchange has been fixed to 80km per hour, said Brigadier Mohammed Marafa. The department would monitor the traffic flow on the roads and may re-fix the speed limit up to 100km per hour later, he said yesterday. Marafa said opening of the project has helped easing traffic flow on the entire roads that link to the Interchange. The whole project became operational last night, except the service roads and a bridge leading to the service roads, said Mohammed Marwan Mohsen. The D-Ring Interchange forms the part of Ashghal’s prestigious Doha expressway project. The Doha expressway Project is expected to be carried out in 13 different packages. Of, this, four packages have already been launched. The D-Ring Interchange Project (Package IV) is the first project to be completed under these packages. The other packages include Industrial Interchange (III) and the February 22 project (I & II). Launched in 2006 September, the D-Ring Interchange Project was originally scheduled to be completed in 2008. However, the shortage of construction materials delayed the project by nearly one year. Marwan said Ashghal was forced to make slight changes in the original plan of Doha Expressway project in view of the proposed Traffic Master Plan being prepared by the Urban Planning and Development Authority. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local_News&subsection=Qatar+News&month=February2009&file=Local_News2009022422651.xml
