Doha March 16: Some 70 suspected cases of the deadly corona virus had been found in Qatar since the disease was first detected last year but all the new cases were tested negative, a senior official of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) said yesterday. There were two confirmed cases of the Sars-like virus in Qatar but no fresh cases have been detected since then, according to Dr Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of the Health Promotion and Communicable Disease Control Department at SCH. He was speaking on the sidelines of a workshop on prevention of communicable diseases for representatives from private companies, at Grand Regency hotel yesterday. Al Hajiri said that all precautions have been taken to prevent a possible spread of new diseases and other communicable diseases in the country. The workshop aimed to increase awareness among companies with high number of expatriate workers about preventive measures against all types of infectious diseases. Participants were told about tests on suspected cases being conducted at laboratories of the Hamad Medical Corporation. They were also asked to immediately report any suspected cases to the sections concerned. Representatives from the heath sections of private companies and government and semi-government establishments attended the workshop. Dr Al Hajri said special forms have been distributed to all private clinics and hospitals to report any suspected cases of infectious diseases to the departments concerned at the SCH. He said another workshop will be held next month in collaboration with World Health Organisation. Source:Qatar Chronicle
