Cultural Village Foundation Katara will host the 6th General Assembly of Global Public Diplomacy Network from January 20-22 which will be chaired by Qatar with the participation of nine countries: Turkey, South Korea, Hungary, Taiwan, Nigeria, Singapore, Mexico, Mozambique and the Philippines.
During a press conference hosted by Katara, Secretary General of the Global Diplomatic Network Eng. Darwish Ahmed Al Shaibani stated that after receiving the presidency of the International Diplomatic Network, Katara worked on preparing a set of important and distinguished international cultural projects that would consolidates the role of the network in transferring knowledge sharing experiences and building bridges of effective dialogue, thereby enhancing the values of tolerance, openness and civilizational coexistence between peoples, which will enable member states to prepare new generations to assume their responsibilities in the field of social communication, which is established to build strong and prosperous societies that participate in achieving sustainable development.
Al-Shaibani noted that the discussions of the meeting will contribute to presenting an ambitious future vision, opening new horizons in joint work and translating them into reality in the near future, pointing out that Katara wanted to pursue a distinct strategy in the electronic side, through establishing an electronic portal that links the members of the network and provides many common services, in a safer and more advanced way, based on many international standards, indicating at the same time that social media is an essential part of this development, in addition to the workshop held by Katara accompanying the launch of the Assembly with the participation of specialized experts.
In turn, Manager of Katara's Information Technology Department Thamer Al-Qadi highlighted that the General Assembly meeting coincides with Katara's workshop for young people on social media with participation of specialists, companies heads and international experts in the information technology and modern media sector, explaining that the workshop aims to record this group views in public diplomacy through the modern media in the countries to which they belong, in addition to launching the new website for The Diplomatic Network, as part of a pioneering initiative that aims to enable permanent communication between member states of the network, as this network provides a flexible and dynamic mechanism that provides the process of exchanging information and contributes to capacity building and provides all forms of support to the cultural activities of member states. It is expected that the activities of the day 1 of the 6th General Assembly will begin through a high-level general conference attended by heads of delegations of participating countries, in addition to a group of experts, specialists, academics and university professors, while the activities of day 2 and day 3 include the meeting of the diplomatic network within discussion sessions with the heads of delegations of the participating countries host a round table during which consultations, exchanging ideas and experiences, and discussing a series of topics centered on activating the joint work are discussed.
On the other hand, the 6th General Assembly of Global Public Diplomacy Network hosted by Katara witnesses the submission of requests for new countries to join the network, by submitting their credentials to the general assembly, where it is expected that 8 other countries will join the public international diplomatic network.
It is noteworthy that the State of Qatar obtained its membership in the General Assembly of Global Public Diplomacy Network in 2017 and assumed the presidency from the Turkish Republic on May 4, 2019.
