The Labour Department blacklisted 680 companies over the past month for various offences, and 79 of them were punished for operating without an office. The companies were blacklisted for violating the Qatari labour law and for failing to correct their mistakes within the deadline given by the Department. One hundred and fifty-six companies were punished for their failure to pick up some of their newly recruited employees on their arrival at the Doha International Airport, while 75 companies failed to seek an amicable resolution of disputes with their workers. Twenty-nine companies were found to be operating outside areas specified in their licence and four of them were punished for failing to employ the required number of nationals, as directed by the government. Eighteen companies faced the penalty for not cooperating with Labour Department inspectors. Three companies were found to be guilty of delaying payments and four were punished for faking documents. http://thepeninsulaqatar.com/Display_news.asp?section=Local%5FNews&subsection=Qatar+News&month=March2009&file=Local_News200903085318.xml
