This Eid Al Adha was no different for the staff of the emergency unit of Hamad General Hospital (HGH), as a majority of some 600 people who visited it yesterday complained of indigestion and stomach upsets due to eating lots of meat and sweets.
Doctors at the emergency unit of HGH said many of those who came complaining of stomach upsets and other woes were diabetics, elderly people or heart patients. “It seems they just crossed their limits and forgot those were forbidden food for them,” an emergency health care consultant at HGH told Al Sharq.
Some complained of nausea as well, said Dr Assad Suleman. Being the first day of Eid Al Adha yesterday, for many it was impolite to say no if they visited a neighbour, friend or relative and were offered sweets or a meat preparation or both.
Most of the complainants were provided treatment and were allowed to leave, he said. Some were kept under observation for a while. One death was reported during the day due to heart failure. The deceased was a 52-year-old man. Five injury cases were reported, four of them minor in road accidents. One injury was reported in a quarrel.
