5-a-side football competition a hit among Qatar’s youth

The match drew hundreds of participants including Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell Companies, and Sheikh Thani Al Thani, Deputy General Manager, Qatar Shell. The event was also attended by Hamad Al Kuwari, Head of Marketing & Commercial, QFA, as well as other representatives from the federation. The attempt was part of the QFA and Qatar Shell initiative KOORA TIME, a five-year sustainable initiative which is designed to improve the health and well-being of Qatar’s youth through football. Speaking of the initiative, Wael Sawan, Managing Director and Chairman of Qatar Shell companies said: “Qatar Shell is committed to encouraging participation in sport across Qatar.” He added: “Our attempt at the largest ever 5-a-side football match demonstrates our commitment to the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar’s National Development Strategy 2011-2016 as we strive to improve the health and wellbeing of Qatar’s youth.” Sheikh Thani said: “As the first of many activities under the KOORA TIME initiative, the world record attempt has been a huge success attracting youth from all over Qatar to come and play, along with their family and friends.” He added: “In addition to having the pleasure of watching so many people play, I personally enjoyed taking part in a football match that we hope will break the world record.” Meanwhile, Al Kuwari said he was happy the response to the five-year sustainable initiative. He said on Tuesday: “We are extremely pleased by the wholehearted response to this exciting initiative. This attempt is an opportunity for the whole family to get active and celebrate National Sports Day.”
