415 building permits issued by Municipalities last August

Planning and Statistics Authority published the fifty-six issue of the Monthly Statistics of Building Permits and Building Completion certificates issued by all municipalities of the State.

Building permits and building completion certificates data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.

This press release is intended to give a brief overview of the nature of these monthly permits and certificates in terms of their geographical distribution (according to the municipalities) and types of these permits and certificates as well as details about categories of the different types of buildings, whether they are residential or non-residential.

The release of this monthly data comes under the joint cooperation between the Planning and Statistics Authority and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to make use of the existing electronic link between the two sides.

In a quick review of the data on building permits issued during the month of August 2019, according to their geographical distribution, we find that municipality of Al Rayyan comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building permits issued were 115 permits, i.e. 28% of the total issued permits, while Doha and Al Wakrah municipalities came in second place with 85 permits, i.e. 20% each, followed by Al Da'ayen municipality with 58 permits, i.e.14%, then Umm Slal municipality with 32 permits, i.e.8%.

The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Al Khor 17 permits (4%), Al Sheehaniya 14 permits (3%), and finally Al Shammal 9 permits (2%).

In terms of type of permits issued, data indicates that the new building permits (residential and nonresidential) constitutes 48% (198 permits) of the total building permits issued during the month of August 2019, while the percentage of additions permits constituted 50% (208 permits), and finally fencing permits with 2% (9 permits).

By analyzing new residential buildings permits data, we find that villas top the list, accounting for 72% (118 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans permits by 19% (31 permits) and apartments buildings by 5% (9 permits).

On the other hand, commercial buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 48% (16 permits), followed by governmental buildings with 21% (7 permits), then mosques and industrial buildings e.g. workshops and factories with 15% (5 permits) each comparing number of permits issued in August 2019 with those issued in the previous month it noted a general decrease of 41%.

The increase was noted in all municipalities as follows: Al Khor (56%), Al Sheehaniya (55%), Umm Slal (45%), Al Doha (44%), Al Shammal (40%), Al Rayyan (39%), Al Wakrah (35%), Al Da'ayen (32%).

This drop is due to the seasonal factor related to the State's official holidays.

In a quick review of the data on building completion certificates issued during the month of August 2019, according to their geographical distribution, we find that Rayyan municipality comes at the top of the municipalities where the number of building completion certificates issued were 67 certificates, i.e. (26%) of the total issued certificates, while Al Da'ayen municipality came in second place with 59 certificates, i.e. (23%), followed by municipality of Al Wakrah with 49 certificates (19%), then municipality of Al Doha with 46 certificates, i.e.(18%).

The rest of the municipalities were as follows: Umm Slal 16 certificates (6%), Al Khor 10 certificates (4%), and finally Al Shammal and Al Sheehaniya 5 certificates (2%) each.

In terms of type of certificates issued, data indicates that the new building completion certificates (residential and non-residential) constitutes 76% (195 certificates) of the total building certificates issued during the month of August 2019, while the percentage of additions certificates constituted 24% (62 certificates).

By analyzing new residential buildings completion certificates data, we find that villas' top the list,accounting for 56% (99 certificates) of all new residential buildings completion certificates, followed by dwellings of housing loans certificates by 34% (60 certificates) and apartments buildings by 8% (15 certificates).

On the other hand, governmental buildings were found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings completion certificates with 33% (6 certificates), followed by commercial buildings with 28% (5 certificates), then industrial buildings e.g. workshops and factories with 22% (4 certificates).

Comparing number of certificates issued in August 2019 with those issued in the previous month we noted a general decrease of 33%.

This decrease was clearly noted in most municipalities : Al Rayyan (46%), Al Sheehaniya (44%), Al Wakrah (40%), Al Doha (38%), Umm Slal (30%), Al Shammal (29%), Al Khor (9%).

This drop is due to seasonal factor related to the State's official holidays.

On the other hand, there was a clear increase in Al Da'ayen municipality (11%).
