18,000 workers attend concert at Ras Laffan

POPULAR Indian playback singer Chitra Iyer and her orchestra enthralled a crowd of more than 18,000 workers at a cultural evening hosted by Consolidated Contractors International, a major contractor in Ras Laffan constructing gas plants, at their Ras Laffan West camp on Thursday. Chitra and co-singer Hareesh belted out hit songs one after the other, rocking the audience, a majority of whom were Indians and Nepalis. The event was organised to celebrate the achievement of 20mn manhours without any ‘lost time accident’ at RasGas III Expansi’ A safety exhibition and screening of videos on safe work practices involving cranes, scaffolding and above ground piping were also held on the occasion. RasGas and Chiyoda/Technip JV senior management were present. A raffle draw was held for 100 prizes among their workers and the prizes included TVs and home theaters. CCC management had hosted a show by local artists for their Qatargas project employees on April 17. It was attended by more than 15,000 workers. Gulf Times
