12 new parks opened in Qatar in 2022

In a tweet, the Ministry of Municipality announced the achievements of the Public Parks Department in 2022. This includes completing 12 new parks in the country, bringing the total number of parks to 114 parks with 3 million square meters of public parks and 12.9 million square meters of green area. 15 parks were also installed with sports equipment.

The ministry also included in the report the achievements made regarding animal welfare in the country's parks. In 2022, it was recorded that there were 71 animal surgeries performed and the birth of 217 species in the zoo. The much-awaited Panda Park was also inaugurated in 2022.

The One Million Tree initiative also came to fruition in 2022 as the country saw the participation of several institutions, entities, and figures. 62 embassies, 2,160 students, and several World Cup fans also participated in the initiative. The millionth tree was planted by H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, celebrating Qatar's National Day and the FIFA World Cup 2022 finals.

The ministry also highlighted the achievements made in 2022 with community participation, such as the 52 workshops for 5,000 students and the school programs that 35 schools and 450 students attended.

Regarding horticulture, Qatar produced 881,000 tree seedlings and 126,000 shrubberies, where 202,000 seedlings and 104,000 shrubberies were distributed. The Qatar International Agriculture Exhibitions or 'AgriteQ 2022' also succeeded in 2022. Qatar also participated in the Horticultural exhibition 'Floriade Expo 2022', where the Qatar Pavillion won three international awards. Qatar also received a Guinness World Record for the longest air-conditioned track in the world in Umm Al Seneem Park.
