Plastic addiction is the excessive use of plastics. What we don’t stop to realise is, that, when destroyed by incineration, this plastic is polluting the air, water and land that we need to survive, also exposing workers to chemicals that may be toxic and cancer-causing. It’s almost impossible to get rid of synthetic plastics that are non-biodegradable. They end up in landfills polluting the environment, killing off marine life and harming animals along the way.

No matter where your head turns, you will find plastic. It’s just about everywhere. We eat from plastic containers. We drink through plastic straws. We drink from plastic bottles. We keep our food and other items in plastic containers. We store our groceries in plastic bags. We don’t even realize just how addicted we are to plastic things, and just like any other addiction, this one is harmful and can be life-threatening.

So, what do we do? How do we stop? How do we get rid of this addiction?

It’s really quite simple. Find an alternative, and believe me, there are many.

12 ways to say no to plastic

  1. Say no to plastic straws

  3. Reuse plastic bags.
  4. Take your own bags to the supermarket or wherever you shop.
  5. Use cloth bags when you can.

  8. Take your own mug or thermos to the coffee shop.
