More than 100 real estate developers from the region will participate in the 4th Qatar Real Estate Exhibition (QREX 2009) to be held at the Doha Exhibition Center from May 25 to 28. The organisers said properties worth several trillion dollars would be promoted at the four-day event, which is expected to draw at least 25,000 visitors. Assistant undersecretary and spokesman for the Ministry of Economy and Commerce Mohamed Hassan al-Saadi said the real estate sector would see more development in the near future as the global economic slowdown had only a marginal effect on the country. He said QREX, which is being held for the fourth successive year, reflected the size of the development of the real estate industry in Qatar and the region and offered investors the opportunity to display some innovative and upmarket projects. The official said the huge demand for space at the exhibition centre showed the confidence the region’s investors have in the country’s economy. The head of economic and trade marketing at the ministry, Khalid Darabasti, recalled that the three previous editions of the exhibition had gone well and there has been a sharp increase in the number of visitors at every succeeding edition. “This year’s exhibition will be an even greater success considering that the number of entries from the exhibitors have shot up sharply,” he said. Darabasti said this showed the confidence of the investors was still high and the economy would continue to support innovations in investment throughout the period. Muteb Al Saaq, chairman of Trans Continents, which is organising the event said the company has increased the size of the exhibition from 10,000sq m last year to 15,000sq m. Al Saaq said some larger firms had sought more space. The main sponsors of the event are Qatari Diar and Barwa Real Estate Company. http://gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=283233&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16
