The European Drive-In Film Festival, a drive-in cinema experience, will take place between Nov. 26 to Nov. 28 in the newly opened car park at Doha Festival City.

With an aim to promote cultural togetherness and lift community spirits during this difficult period, the festival will showcase nine foreign language films from nine countries.

The films, which will have English subtitles, were chosen specifically by the Embassies of Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.

The unique cultural experience will immerse movie enthusiasts in a straight-out-of-the-1950s drive-in movies atmosphere. Screenings will be held in the newly opened parking lot of Doha Festival City, where guests will be invited to drive and park to watch their preferred movie out of the unrivaled selection, unique for Qatar. All guests are informed to turn their car engines off to ensure an eco-friendly event.

Doha Festival City, one of the Embassies’ strategic partners for the Drive In Film Festival, will provide its newly built parking space, specifically chosen for the event, and ensure the quality of the screening inclusive of a super large screen and amazing sound.

Robert Hall, Doha Festival City’s General Manager, said: “Qatar is an incredibly multicultural place, hosting people from all over the world, with different backgrounds and all speaking different languages. The European Cinema Festival will open new and exciting cultural horizons to Doha residents. We are pleased to be part of the festival, and to work with the European Embassies on promoting cultural exchange”.

Open to all residents and citizens of Qatar, the festival will provide a safe cinematic experience as all precautionary health and safety measures will be adhered to including social distancing. Each day will host three screenings. The first movie is a Swedish film ‘The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared’ on November 26 at 5.00 p.m. which will open the Festival for invited guests and media. Registration will start 30 minutes before each screening.

Guests can bring their own snacks to enjoy during the movie and can also order from food and beverage outlets from Doha Festival City. The orders will be delivered to guests in their cars by our exclusive partner E-butler. Nestle, the event’s platinum sponsor, will also be providing snacks and surprises movie goers.

Tickets will be free-of-charge and on a first come first serve basis. They can be ordered online on https://eurofilmfestival.qa/ starting November 15 onwards.

The European Drive-In Film Festival is an initiative from nine European Embassies in Doha as a way of adapting to the conditions we all are required to live under right now. “We are excited to see this idea of a cultural community experience being able to take place despite the pandemic that affects all our lives,” said H.E. Anders Bengtcén, Ambassador of Sweden to the State of Qatar.
