Tiktok launches sport themed short film competition collaboration doha film institute

As the home for entertainment and creativity, TikTok has announced the launch of a short film competition with a sport-based theme in collaboration with the Doha Film Institute (DFI), encouraging creators in the region and beyond to showcase their creativity and passion for storytelling through video.

Taking place across Qatar in October 2022 and using the hashtag #DreamTheImpossible, this short film competition stems from TikTok’s mission to inspire creativity and bring joy. It also forms part of TikTok’s ongoing commitment to excite communities to unlock the power of creativity to drive positive, meaningful and lasting change, and underscores the universality of expression, bringing different cultures together.

As a pivotal year for Qatar as it hosts one of its first-ever major global sporting events, it's a true testament to what's possible with determination and the desire to achieve what may seem impossible. Celebrating the community's creativity, TikTok has partnered with the Doha Film Institute to encourage artists, filmmakers, and creatives to share their stories around #DreamTheImpossible with an overarching creative theme based on sports.

Competition details

Running across three weeks from 5 October until 26 October 2022, the competition will seek video submissions to be posted on the platform from filmmakers, creators and storytellers using the hashtag #DreamTheImpossible, where they'll share their authentic stories around achieving the impossible. The best videos using the hashtag #DreamTheImpossible will then be shortlisted to the top 10 by DFI.

Once the Doha Film Institute publishes the shortlist of top 10 videos for each category, the nomination will open up for the final phase of in-app public voting from 1 November until 7 November 2022. The entry with the highest number of votes in each category will be declared the three competition winners on 7 November.

Competition prizes

The three winners from the #DreamTheImpossible competition will be awarded with a TikTok trophy and be provided with an unforgettable experience by having their films screened at the prestigious Doha Film Experience this November. The first-place winner will also receive a $10,000 film grant so they can further their passion for filmmaking and content creation.
