Qatar’s Premium Events and TripleTwo are delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for Shrek the Musical which will visit Doha, Qatar for the very first time from March 9 – 19 at the Theatre at Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC).

Based on the multi-selling DreamWorks blockbuster which has enchanted millions of audiences of all ages from across the world, Shrek the Musical is now set to entertain families in Qatar with its lavish costumes and great music. As part of its vision to help make Qatar a tourism and entertainment hub in the region, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) is a proud partner for this production.

The animated movie was released in 2001, and the three sequels have grossed far more than 2 billion US Dollars during their worldwide run. In 2002, a creative team around writer David Linday Abaire and composer Jeanine Tesori began to develop a live stage musical version which premiered in 2008. Since the premiere in Seattle in summer 2008, the show has played with immense success for more than a year on Broadway in New York and in the London Westend. An extensive tour travelled through the United States, the UK, Europe, Asia and South America. Current versions of SHREK are playing in Germany, the UK and Japan. Since 2008 the show has been seen by more than 2 million people.

Shrek the Musical tells the touching story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. Suddenly, a gang of homeless fairy-tale characters (Pinocchio, Cinderella, the Three Pigs and many more) raid his sanctuary, saying they’ve been evicted by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad. So Shrek strikes a deal: I’ll get your homes back, if you give me my home back! But when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord strikes a deal of his own; he’ll give the fairy-tale characters their homes back, if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Shrek obliges and finds himself in one of the most beautiful stories in musical history. Join our unlikely hero and his loyal steed Donkey in the amazing plot of Shrek the Musical.
