Everything you need to know about Shop Qatar 2021 Design Week and Doha District

Qatar Tourism is partnering with Doha Design District in Msheireb Downtown to host Shop Qatar 2021’s Design Week - a series of fashion and cultural events, design workshops and over 30 pop-up shops by local designers, entrepreneurs along with food and beverage outlets.

Shop Qatar 2021 Design Week overview

Pop Up Shops: 30 Popup shops will feature over 20 local designers and entrepreneurs as well as food and beverage pop-up shops. UK based consignment store for sneakers and streetwear ‘Presented By’ will also have a pop-up shop where patrons can have garments customized.

Design Workshops: Seven workshops will be held at Doha Design District, hosted in collaboration with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU-Q) Arts and other partners. Registration to reserve seats and payment (if required) can be made through the Virgin Megastore.

International Fashion Designer: Doha Design District will host a private viewing of an exclusive collection by Indian American fashion designer Naeem Khan on 8 October between 4 pm and 6 pm (Reservations can be made through this number: +974 44335588)

Schedule of design workshops

  • Candle workshop by Candeel on 3 October from 4 pm - 8 pm (Tickets: QR 450)
  • 2 Denim workshops by VCU-Q Arts on 4-5 October from 4 pm - 9 pm (Free)
  • 2 perfume making workshops by Francis Hembert (VCU-Q Arts) on 6 - 7 October from 4 pm - 9 pm (Tickets: QR 730)
  • Accessories workshop by Instudio on 8 October from 3 pm - 8 pm (Tickets: QR 300)
  • Skincare workshop by Instudio on 9 October from 3 pm - 8 pm (Tickets: QR 300)

1. 1309 by Ghada Al Subaey

    Ghada Al Subaey is a renowned Qatari fashion designer and entrepreneur. She has been part of the fashion and design industry since 2012 and is the creator and founder of 'The Kayys', and '1309'. Al Subaey’s brands represent sustainable luxury that honors our planet’s and women’s wellness. Due to her progressive ideas and authentic approach, she was honored with the "Young Designer Arab Woman Award" in 2013. Al Subaey’s most recent initiative is “The Cutting Studio (TCS)” at M7 in Msheireb.

    2. Altair

      Altair is the creation of a designer who draws her inspiration from the beauty of nature, celestial skies, blue waters, and sunshine. The designer behind the brand works in the slow fashion space and is mindful of preserving the purity of our planet. Inspired by the unrelenting rays of summer sun and Turkish beach towels, Altair’s Summer Essentials is the debut collection of beach coverups for women and kids. The soft, sensuous cotton has been specially woven by a cluster in Madhya Pradesh, India.

      3. Designed with Love by Noora F

        Designed with love by Noora F is an eclectic chic womenswear brand, born from an admiration for fabric hunting and artisanry.

        4. Design House Interiors

          Design House Interiors is a full-service interior design firm founded by Qatari talents: Aisha AlMohannadi and Kaltham AlKuwari, both graduated from the reputable VCUQ with BFA in Interior Design. In a span of three years, the design firm has completed over 300 projects and won the UK based International Property Awards for the category of Residential Interior for Arabia - Qatar.

          5. Essentials by Dana

            It all started with a dream, a vision, a purpose: to meet modest women’s desire to wear fashion that best fit the life and times they live in. Essentialsbyd.com launched in 2018 and became the first Qatari fashion platform to deliver online clothes shopping with such a purpose and wide variety. Dana created this platform to simplify the process of finding the right abaya, kaftan and travel wear.

            6. FIVE. Fashion Line

              Five. Fashion Line is making people stop and stare at you since 2020. They design fashion wear and everyday outfits that set the scene for you.

              7. LAFEMME

                LAFEMME is created by Mariam Al Muhannadi. Established in 2015, LAFEMME started with abayas. The brand concentrates on elegance and style while presenting femineity with a timeless touch of creativity. LAFEMME also runs SKIN, a collection of daily top wears in skin complexion range of colors that can be worn on any occasion.

                8. MONO MI

                  MONO MI is a luxury brand that designs jewelry for women who think out of the box. With its unique and glamorous style, MONO MI has created collections that are wearable in both day-to-day elegance and red carpet glam. Pırıl Doken, designer of MONO MI, from a very young age, got engaged in every stage of fine jewelry making. She combined her experience with her passion to create a brand and established MONO MI in 2013. MONO MI primarily uses recycled silver and gold in creations and has a recycling program for its customers.

                  9. Pashmeen

                    Kashmiri handicrafts are known throughout the world for their artistic work and grandeur. Since 2012 Pashmeen is serving the sultanate of Oman under the company name’ snow world’ and is looking forward to expanding in Qatar shortly under the marque ‘Pashmeen.’ The brand deals with Gatra, scarves, and shawls. Pashmina is the exquisite art of hand-weaving finest cashmere wool into luxurious pashmina shawls, scarves and accessories.

                    10. Pattern by Wadha

                      Pattern by Wadha is a brand born in 2018, coming from a Qatari origin showcasing a strong understanding of the traditional sensibilities that go into adorning the veil and focuses on creating garments, which empower women helping them exuberate confidence and experience luxury with comfort.

                      11. The Fayve

                        In this fast-moving world, graphic design has become more important than ever. The Fayve was established in 2019 to provide graphic design services in a modern and simplistic way.

                        12. Threadscorner

                          Threadscorner is a clothing brand that was established in 2021 for designing and fashion purpose.

                          13. Volevo

                            Volevo is on a journey to discover and create the latest fashion trends and bring colors to life. Their mission is to reduce the impact on the ecosystem of our planet by crafting sustainable and environmentally friendly clothes with a promise to feel comfortable against your skin. Most of the materials used in VOLÉVO are sourced carefully with 100% organic cotton, natural straw, and 100% natural linen.

                            14. WAAD

                              WAAD is an award-winning Qatari fashion designer who was awarded designer of the year award for The Arab Women Awards in Qatar 2013. Her boutique, WAAD designs is an Abaya brand that launched in 2010, with a passion for unique abayas that are easy to wear. WAAD designs was chosen by the ‘The Year of Culture Qatar – Russia 2018’ committee to represent Qatari fashion designers. The designer has also been featured in Vogue Russia, Harper’s Bazaar Arabia, and many other local magazines.

                              15. Aldukan

                                A Qatari brand, founded in 2008, Aldukan uses traditional designs and embroidery combined with modern fashion trends to create unique abayas. The brand has grown immensely over the last decade, during which it also had the opportunity to showcase at the InQ store in Harrods. Aldukan have created a signature style and found their place in the abaya world; whilst keeping true to their culture. Each collection tells a different story and makes the brand dynamic but the signature Aldukan style, rich in design and quality remains as its identity.

                                16. Noor Stationery

                                  Noor Stationery is an online-based business established in 2013 by Noor Ali Bahzad, a Qatari graphic designer who was just 17 years old at the time. By merging the art of pattern making with design skills, Noor created a wide range of locally made stationery. A graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and a young entrepreneur, Noor wishes to inspire and pass on the knowledge to young women in Qatar to help empower them too.

                                  17. Maryam Al Darwish

                                    Maryam Al Darwish a new age Qatari fashion brand was established in 2015 by the creative fashion designer Maryam Al Darwish. The brand takes a new approach on modest Qatari Fashion with a dash of fun, splash of effervescence and a sprinkle of elegance. Maryam won the “Emerging Talent Award” from Grazia Magazine in 2018 and she continues to release innovative and diverse collections.

                                    18. INOYsport

                                      With the tagline ‘Looks Nice on You’, the trendy sportswear brand offers stylish go-to pieces that one wants to keep in their closet for years.

                                      19. Sonali Raman

                                        SR by Sonali Raman stands for slow and responsible fashion. The brand believes in ethical making, zero waste, mindful production and offering sustainable choices to clients. The brand showed at NYFW on 8th September 2021 on the runway with the new Summer Sorbet collection. SR Apparel lines are created from handwoven, handloom and natural fabrics primarily, sourced exclusively from small weavers. The silhouettes flatter; yet are edgy; set new trends; suit every single body shape, are timeless and effortlessly chic and inclusive. SR Jewelry line showcases Zardozi, an ancient craft of embroidery that uses gold and silver wires, on reclaimed scrap leather for everyday wear earrings, bracelets, and neckpieces.

                                        20. Presented By

                                          Presented By is a renowned UK based consignment store that represents a refined regeneration of the sneaker and streetwear culture. Presented By Doha is the new flagship which is an exhibition space rather than a retail store where Sneaker aficionados can come together not only to shop, but also to feel, touch, discover and share their love for sneakers, streetwear and urban culture.

                                          21. Renkler

                                            Renkler offers ready to buy and customized art. For artists, it offers services including photoshoot of artworks, marketing, as well as packaging and delivery.
