More than 10,000 people are expected to participate in the fun-filled 7th Wheels ‘n’ Heels event, organised by Reach Out To Asia (Rota) and supported by Maersk Oil and Qatar Cycling Federation at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park today.
The action will start at 2pm as celebrities and VIPs join the attending families, providing eight hours of non-stop entertainment. There will be special performance by Jordanian music sensation actress Diana Karazon and UAE superstar Shama Hamdan, as well as Baraem Children’s Channel presenters Ahmed al-Mulla and Jihan Arsanious.
The public will also get the opportunity to have their photo taken and getting autographs from sports icons, Mahmoud and Abdullah Bo Shri (Kuwait), rally racer Nada Zeidan (Qatar), and teenage swimming sensation Nada Mohamed Arakji (Qatar).
Wheels’n’Heels 2014 will host special activities including the traditional Wheels ‘n’ Heels Circuit. Family members of all ages will pull on their trainers to jog, walk, cycle or wheelchair the 3-km circuit to raise money for Rota projects across Asia.
Mohamed Abdulla Saleh, Rota community development manager said, “we encourage all families in Qatar to ‘Reach Out By Having Fun’ at the Museum of Islamic Art Park, Doha Corniche. Unarguably, Qatar’s largest annual community event of the year emphasises ROTA’s values of empowering the society; including youth, women and special needs communities, by using the inspiration of active lifestyle”.
All participants have to take shuttle buses which will ply very frequently to the venue. Parking will be available at Qatar Sports Club (QSC) and Ministry of Interior (MOI) of Qatar.
Maersk Oil Qatar is reaching out to help thousands of children and adults lead healthier lifestyles as the Flagship Sponsor of the Wheels ‘n’ Heels Family Fun Day.
Rota and Maersk Oil Qatar are encouraging all families in Qatar to “Reach Out By Having Fun” on the occasion.
“On behalf of Rota, I would like to express my gratitude to the Flagship Sponsor and thank our partners involved with Wheels ‘n’ Heels,” said Rota executive director Essa al-Mannai.
“An active and healthy lifestyle for all residents of Qatar is promoted in the country’s Vision and there is no better way to endorse this concept than with Rota,” said Ahmed al-Kuwari, technical liaison manager, Maersk Oil Qatar. “At Maersk Oil, we share this belief with Rota and are proud of our contribution in the human improvement by focusing the attention of the community on nutrition, health and exercise.”
In partnership with Maersk Oil Qatar, Wheels ‘n’ Heels 2014 will communicate - for the second year in a row - the seriousness of diabetes by promoting Action on Diabetes, an initiative supported by Maersk Oil Qatar.
The Action on Diabetes village aims to raise awareness on the prevention and management of diabetes and the promotion of healthy lifestyle choices.
Al-Mannai further said, “We acknowledge the great support of our Strategic Partner, Qatar Cycling Federation (QCF), and a number of organisations that will demonstrate their corporate social responsibility by participating in this annual event - Aspire, Childhood Cultural Centre, Ooredoo, Qatar National Cancer Society, Qatar Orphan Foundation (Dhreima), Qatar Olympic Committee, Qatar University, Green Life, Qatar Brazil 2014, Hamad Medical Corporation, ADL, Qatar Bikes, Slim N Lite and Qatar Football Association.”
On its part, QCF has expressed its readiness to share energy and dynamism with all participants at the event. “QCF is once again excited to support this fun day,” said Amani al-Dosari, a member of QCF, a long-standing partner of Wheels ‘n’ Heels.
